US Muslims Condemn Manhattan Terror Attack

American Muslims denounced Tuesday’s terrorist attack in Manhattan, New York, that killed at least 8 people.

The Center of Mosque Studies - In a statement, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the United States’ largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, said: "CAIR condemns today’s horrific and cowardly attack in Manhattan and offers sincere condolences to the loved ones of those killed and injured.”

Since the goal of such heinous crimes is to divide our nation, it is incumbent on Americans of all faiths and backgrounds to frustrate that criminal objective by standing united in the face of terror."

At least 8 people have been reported killed and 11 injured in the vehicle attack near the World Trade Center memorial in lower Manhattan, New York City.

Police have the driver in custody and are investigating the attack as terrorism.

Six people were reported dead on the scene, and two others were pronounced dead at the hospital, another 11 were transported to the hospital with "serious, but not life threatening” injuries, NYPD Commissioner James O’Neil told reporters.

O’Neil said that the suspect was a 29-year-old male. He said that the man had a paintball gun and a pellet gun, pointing them at people, RT reported.

The suspect was hospitalized after being shot in the stomach by police. The suspect had exited his vehicle after striking a school bus, with two adults and two children inside. The suspect left the vehicle "displaying imitation firearms” and was shot by police officers before being taken into custody.

The suspect was identified as an Uzbek immigrant named Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov, 29, who entered the United States in 2010, law enforcement officials said.
