Sixth Int’l Quran Contest for Muslim Students held in Iran

The preliminary and semifinal rounds of the 6th International Quran Competition for Muslim Students have concluded, an official said.

The Center of Mosque StudiesHead of the Iranian Academics’ Quranic Activities Organization, which organized the event, told IQNA that the final round will start on April 27.

Hamid Saber Farzam added that 40 contenders have made it to the finals.

He said on the first day of the last round, the participants will meet with Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.

The holy city of Mashhad, northeast Iran, will host the three-day event, he added.

Referring to the two previous rounds, Saber Farzam noted that in the first stage, as many as 203 university students from 73 countries sent recorded files of their Quran recitations to the secretariat of the contest.

According to the official, some 100 of them made it to the semi-finals, which was held in a form of a phone-in competition.

From among them, he said, 40 students who scored the highest points were selected to take part in the final stage.

Saber Farzam noted that Mehdi Gholamnejad and Mojtaba Fardfani will represent the Islamic Republic in the final stage of the international Quranic event.

Gholamnejad will compete in the category of recitation while Fardfani will represent Iran in memorization of the entire Quran, he said.

As for the panel of judges, he said there will be five foreign Quran experts and four Iranians on the panel.

The Iranian Academics’ Quranic Activities Organization, affiliated to the Iranian Academic Center for Education, Culture and Research (ACECR), has organized the competition biannually since 2006 with the aim of promoting unity and cooperation among Muslim world students and elevating the level of Quranic activities.
