The fire broke out at 690 Jean-Talon West near Bloomfield Avenue, in a building which houses Marché BK, a grocery store that offers halal meats.
A mosque, Masjid Anwar-e-Madina, is also listed at the same address.
The fire department said it appears the fire broke out due to an electrical malfunction in the basement. It is not considered suspicious.
